Canton Alderman Billy Myers dies after cancer battle
January 23rd, 2012
Ward 2 Alderman Billy Myers died Thursday night after a battle with cancer. Madison County Coroner Alex Breeland confirmed the death was from natural causes.
Myers, who also worked at the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, had been dealing with cancer for years.
The Democrat was first elected to the Mayor and Alderman Board in 2005. Myers, 60, left the board in late November when his health worsened.
Mayor William Truly said the board will likely make an order for a special election at the next regular meeting February 7 to fill the vacancy.
“Billy was such a young person, he dedicated his life to community service,” Truly said.
“When it’s all said and done, Billy wanted the best for Canton. He is going to be missed.”
The Breeland Funeral Home in Canton is handling funeral arrangements which are unknown at this time.
