Supervisors to name new county administrator Tuesday

January 17th, 2012

District 3 Supervisor Gerald Steen would not give any names, but said he felt the board had reached a consensus on the two positions and felt confident they will be announced at their next meeting Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 9 a.m. in Canton.

“I’m very pleased with the applicants that we received,” Steen said. “We had several that were very qualified and we just had to go through all of them.”

Applications were submitted to the county in recent months to fill the positions that have been filled on an interim basis for over a year and a half.

Last Wednesday and Thursday board members interviewed three finalists for both positions, according to Steen.

Current Interim County Administrator Brad Sellers, who was not interviewing for the position, was planning and zoning administrator before being named in April 2010, but he has kept his original duties throughout his tenure.

The positions of county administrator and comptroller have been in flux since Donnie Caughman resigned as county administrator in late 2009. Then-comptroller Mark Houston was named and Deputy Comptroller Quandice Green was promoted to Comptroller.

Houston resigned from the position in April of 2010 to take a job in the private sector and was replaced by Sellers.

A year later Green resigned as comptroller and supervisors hired Wallace Collins to replace her on an interim basis.
