It’s easy to get healthy and stay healthy in Madison County with access to several excellent hospital facilities, a wide variety of medical clinics, and an abundance of specialized physicians and other health care providers. Currently, Madison County is home to the Madison County Medical Center, a facility which will be replaced by the new Madison River Oaks Hospital in the fall of 2011.
Major Jackson-Metro Hospitals and Medical Centers
Madison River Oaks Hospital (Canton) – Madison River Oaks Hospital is scheduled to replace Madison County Medical Center in the fall of 2011. The new $42 million, 67-bed hospital is being built in Canton near the Nissan North America manufacturing plant. The state-of-the-art facility will be part of the River Oaks Health System and offer 24-hour emergency care, general surgery, orthopedics, women’s services and obstetrics, pediatrics, neurology, urology intensive care, and diagnostics.
Central Mississippi Medical Center (Jackson) – Central Mississippi Medical Center (CMMC) is a 429-bed facility located in Jackson and is the largest hospital in the Health Management Associates, Inc., system. Service specialties include comprehensive weight management and bariatric surgery, diagnostic and surgical cardiology, obstetrics and women’s health, cancer care services, emergency care, diabetes management, behavioral health services, surgery, and pediatrics.

G.V. Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center (Jackson) – The G. V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center, Jackson, MS, is a VA medical facility with 163 operating beds, which provides primary, secondary, and tertiary medical, surgical, neurological, and psychiatric inpatient care. Services include radiation therapy, magnetic resonance imaging, hemodialysis, cardiac catheterization, sleep studies, substance abuse treatment, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), hematology/oncology, and rehabilitation programs. Both primary and specialized outpatient services are available, including such specialized programs as: ambulatory surgery, spinal cord injury, neurology, infectious disease, substance abuse, PTSD, readjustment counseling, and mental health diagnostic and treatment programs.

Mississippi Baptist Medical Center (Jackson) – Mississippi Baptist Medical Center is the state’s largest private hospital. The 638-bed medical center employs a medical staff of over 500 members representing more than 85 medical specialties. Baptist Health Systems is the parent company of Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, The Mississippi Hospital for Restorative Care, and a number of related health care services and programs, including a new 88,000-square-foot facility in the city of Madison that is home to 13 specialty clinics, including advanced cardiovascular services, women’s and pediatric care, rehabilitation, eye care and ear, nose and throat (ENT) services.

River Oaks Hospital (Flowood) – River Oaks Hospital is a 100-bed facility specializing in many areas, including critical care, 24-hour emergency care, family medicine, general surgery, hemodialysis, internal medicine, neonatology, neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, otolaryngology, pain management, plastic surgery, vascular access, and vascular surgery. The hospital is part of the River Oaks Healthcare system, which also includes Crossgates River Oaks Hospital, Woman’s Hospital, and Madison River Oaks Hospital (now under construction).
St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital (Jackson) – A subsidiary of St. Dominic Health Services, St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital is a 571-bed not-for-profit acute care hospital, which specializes in cancer treatment, heart care, women’s services, surgery, behavioral health programs, and more. Sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Illinois, St. Dominic Health Services also operates St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, MS, an all-inclusive continuing care retirement community.

University of Mississippi Medical Center (Jackson) – The University of Mississippi Medical Center is a division of University of Mississippi Health Care Systems, which includes the Jackson-area facilities of University Hospital, Winfred L. Wiser Hospital for Women and Infants, Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children, Wallace Conerly Hospital for Critical Care, and Jackson Medical Mall. The medical center employs more than 8,500 full- and part-time employees and includes a Level 1 trauma center and organ transplant program. The Medical Center is the state’s only academic health science center, offering six health science schools: medicine, nursing, dentistry, health-related professions, graduate studies, and pharmacy.
