MADISON, Mississippi — Madison County taxpayers could be buying car tags and filing for homestead exemptions in a more spacious southern annex in Madison sometime in July.
After six months of discussions, The Clarion-Ledger reports (http://on.thec-l.com/15Rqoyi) the supervisors this week voted to buy a former bank building that is almost double the size of the current county annex building in Ridgeland that holds the tax assessor’s and tax collector’s offices.
Officials say the county will trade the current annex on U.S. Highway 51, appraised at $450,000, for the bank, appraised at $2.3 million, leaving the county to pay $1.85 million for the building and its 2.3 acres.
County Comptroller Shelton Vance says the building is move-in ready.
