The Madison County Business League has elected six new business leaders to the Board of Directors.
The six new directors will serve four year terms that began May 1, 2013.
“I want to thank all the candidates for their willingness to serve by having placed their names on the ballot,” said Jan Collins, executive director of the MCBL. “The election was very close. All the candidates were outstanding.”
Collins also recognized outgoing directors Buck Covington, John Almond and Scott Parrish for their many years of service to the MCBL board during the organizational period of the organization.
“They will be recognized at our annual VISIONS Celebration later this year,” Collins said.
Among the new directors are Tina Lakey, district director of Center Point Energy.
She presently serves as Mississippi Natural Gas Association president, the first woman to hold this position.
She serves on the board of directors of United Way, and also chairs the newly formed Women in Leadership Committee for UW. She has served as president of several organizations and was selected as one of the Mississippi Business Journal’s 50 Leading Business Women in 2008.
Sam Kelly is an attorney with the Brunini Grantham Grower & Hewes firm and is an active member of and serves as General Counsel to the Mississippi Associated Builders and Contractors and the Mississippi Road Builders Association.
He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America in the field of Construction Litigation, as well as named one of America’s Leading Lawyers by Chambers USA, and Mid-South Super Lawyers. Kelly is active in the community, particularly in Madison County schools. He was elected in 2013 to the Madison County School Board.
Glen Silverman serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Madison River Oaks Medical Center. He has an extensive background in the health management field. Silverman has served on numerous boards including the Metro Coalition, STOP SMA, the Canton Chamber of Commerce, and the Mississippi Hospital Association. He has served as an Adjunct Professor at Mississippi College and is a graduate of Leadership Madison County.
Terrell Knight is director of Government for C Spire Wireless, where he’s worked for 19 years. He is involved in the community and represents C Spire at most functions in the State of Mississippi.
He has served on the board of directors for the Metro YMCA, the Mississippi Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, and currently on the Executive Council for Boy Scouts of America, Andrew Jackson Council.
Nicole Kemp serves as the National Transportation Systems Manager for Levi Strauss & Co., where her primary role is to ensure that millions of jeans are shipped globally each year from multi-site U.S. distribution centers, all while meeting cost and service objectives.
She participates in numerous community and civic organizations, including the Canton Community Development Committee and Entrepreneur Committee as well as on the steering committee for North Madison County’s Excel by 5.
She is a board member for the Madison County Chamber of Commerce as well as president of the advisory council for Zip 39. She was selected as one of the Mississippi Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40 as well as one of the 50 Leading Business Women in 2012.
James D. (Don) Burnham, Ph.D. serves as vice president of the Ridgeland campus for Holmes Community College. He has served in numerous positions on campus. Burnham is a member of several civic organizations and serves on the board of directors of the City of Ridgeland Chamber of Commerce. He is also chairman of the Education and Workforce Taskforce for the Madison County Strategic Plan.
The six new board members join nine other members of the board of directors, including Bill Guion of BankPlus, Dick Hutchinson of MCEDA, Sherry Chance of Tulane University-Madison Campus, Jennifer Sinclair of St. Dominic Health Services, Sarah Lofton of Lofton Advertising, Bob Williams of United Healthcare MS, Lanny Slaughter of MCEDA, Sidney Allen of Butler Snow, and Jim Pettis of Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs.
The mission of the Madison County Business League is to bring together, under one organization, the voice of numerous entities in order to establish a clear and concise message for the future.
