The Steed Road Bridge Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held yesterday, April 4, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. Those in attendance were as follows: Supervisor Gerald Steen, Supervisor Ronnie Lott, Ridgeland Mayor Gene McGee, Alderman Scott Jones, Alderman Brian Ramsey, Alderman Ken Heard, County Administrator David Overby, Mike McCollum, Rudy Warnock and Jimmy Vickers.
The project was sponsored and paid for by the Madison County Board of Supervisors, and was part of the County’s five year plan to refurbish all deficient bridges within the County.
Instead of reconstructing the bridge, the Board made the decision to refurbish it. By refurbishing the bridge, it saved taxpayers $428,000 with the total cost being $102,000 and was completed in less than six weeks. If reconstructed, the cost would have been $530,000 and taken four months to complete.
Warnock and Associates, Jimmy Vickers, Key Construction and the Madison County Road Department are all to be congratulated on a job well done.
Because the Steed Road Bridge has been refurbished, Madison County is now a little safer than yesterday.
