Despite the increased amount of rainfall seen last month, Ridgeland officials say that construction on the Lake Harbour widening project has maintained steady progress so far and remains on schedule for an April 2014 completion.

“In the overall scheme of things, the rain last month hasn’t slowed them down much,” said Public Works Director Mike McCollum.

“We had double the amount of rain that we normally get in February, but they have made good progress. They are where they are supposed to be and we have no complaints about that.”

The $16 million project headed up by Eutaw Construction began in August of last year and included in the design: center turn lane, landscaping, multi-use trail, new traffic signals and new water lines.

According to McCollum, they are almost finished adding the new water and sewer lines, which are located just east of the Windover entrance of Lake Harbour.

“What we have done so far is we have gotten most of the utilities relocated.

“Within the scope of the project we did have to add some water lines and sewer lines so we are little over half through with that,” he said.

Crews began work to replace storm drainage culverts in early December, which resulted in some road closures.

Crews will soon add another culvert just east of the Windover entrance off Lake Harbour before clearing and grubbing takes place.
