A Madison County business has partnered with a Starkville business to launch a new product built on the success of their respective brands. Leisha Pickering established Musee Bath LLC, in Madison County in the summer of 2011. She began selling her handcrafted bath balms at the Livingston Farmer’s Market, but their demand quickly outgrew the local markets. With her immediate success, and her business rapidly expanding, Pickering chose to make a difference through a faith-based work environment, inclusive hiring practices, and dedication to using high-quality natural ingredients. Today, Musee Bath is the largest wholesale bath balm manufacturer in the U.S., and Pickering’s products can be found at hundreds of retailers nationwide. “Our mission at Musee is to make an impact and be a light in our community,” Pickering said. Pickering has now partnered with Starkville-based Vibe LLC, a company founded by Mississippi State University students Kaylie Mitchell and Hagan Walker. As a junior graphic design major at MSU, Mitchell was assigned to create an idea for a conceptual company. After technical issues with her original idea of creating lighted tea bags, Mitchell and her co-founder, Walker, created the concept for Glo, a liquid-activated beverage light. Since its founding at MSU, Glo has been seen by more than 10 million viewers on social media and has sold over half a million units in 34 countries. Vibe has largely catered to the restaurant industry where Glo is often used to light cocktails or speciality drinks. Their collaboration with Musee was a result of Walker’s and Mitchell’s ambition to extend Glo beyond the drink and entertainment market. “We are really wanting to enter a more family-centric market,” Walker said. “We were inspired by several stories sent to us by customers who had used Glo in creative ways with their children.” Pickering added, “I was so excited when we met with Hagan and Kaylie because the little light of Glo symbolizes exactly what we are trying to do with our company and we hope it will remind others that they can also be symbols of light in their own communities.” Walker and Mitchell developed the concept of embedding Glo into a bath balm, a popular bath product that effervesces fragrance and essential oils when submerged in water. Together, the two companies created their debut product, “This Little Light of Mine.” The new “This Little Light of Mine” bath balm is filled with natural ingredients, including natural olive oil and cedarwood essential oil. “When we first created Glo, we saw it in the kids’ market,” Mitchell explained. “Being able to come full-circle with a fellow Mississippi company like Musee, through a high-quality and fun product that brings joy to kids is one of my most satisfying experiences with the company. I really feel like we’re doing good and making a difference.”
