MADISON — Plans are under way to open a new Ichiban here off Grandview Boulevard. A site plan was approved Monday by the city Planning & Zoning Board for the hibachi and sushi eatery. It now moves to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen next Tuesday for final approval. Alan Hoops, director of environment and design for the city, said the restaurant will be located across from Corner Bakery on the east side of Grandview Boulevard on land backing up to Brashear Creek. Ichiban is the latest commercial project slated for the city, with nearly a dozen other ventures under way. Construction was recently completed on the Madison OB/GYN Clinic located at The Fountains of Madison. Construction has recently begun on the Forum at Grandview Phase III, which is being built inside the existing Forum site. Kirkland’s is one of the stores that will be locating there, Hoops said. Dirt work is also being performed at Verizon and Taco Bell, both located next to each other on Main Street beside the Shell service station. Fortenberry Dental Clinic located on Old Canton Road is expected to be completed soon, Hoops said. At the same time, the city is awaiting construction drawings for a new Key Dental Group office. Trend Consultants, a nursing facility management company, is also constructing a building at The Fountains of Madison. Dirt work has begun for Memory Care of Madison, which will locate a new facility on Mannsdale Park Drive. And work continues on Madison Methodist Church on Post Oak Road. Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler says the city continues to attract quality commercial developments to the city that residents demand. “We have listened to our residents, and have been working diligently to bring restaurants and the type businesses they have requested to our city,” she said. “And we will continue to tirelessly do so, always putting the desires of our residents first.” –
