Madison County Supervisors presented a resolution at Monday night’s meeting celebrating Nissan’s 10th anniversary year of operation in Canton. Since the plant’s arrival in May of 2003, Nissan has invested $2.6 billion into the Canton manufacturing plant, along with providing employment opportunities to more than 5,000 employees.

“The Board of Supervisors of Madison County, Mississippi commends, recognizes, and celebrates the 10th year anniversary of Nissan’s presence in Madison County, Mississippi; appreciates its good attitude of corporate partnership through which it has participated in activities which have improved the lives of countless numbers of our citizens,” said Board Attorney Mike Espy.

The plant has contributed more than $7 million to local charities and organizations as well as more than $2 million in academic support to Canton public schools, which have provided classrooms with high tech equipment to advance technology programs not only for area schools but also for other learning institutions throughout the state.

“I’m often asked about our plant in Canton, and I always have to start by talking about our employees, the heart and soul of our plant,” said Vice President of Operations, Dan Bednarzyk.

“Our team members are our strength. Their spirit and extraordinary work ethic are the reasons we have been able to consistently earn additional investment that has continued to create jobs.

“We have to be competitive on a global level to earn work here in Mississippi.

“I am confident that we have more to look forward to in the future,” he said.
