The Madison County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a new bond plan on Monday, distributing $6.8 million among the five districts for various projects throughout the county.

The board approved a previous plan last month in which the board estimated approximately $1.2 million to go to repairing the Madison County Courthouse in Canton, Church Road and Panther Creek Road.

“The bond plan that we passed last night is more inclusive of the districts of all the supervisors so that’s basically the difference. It was a way to try to make sure we got to all the taxpaying citizens of Madison County,” said District 3 Supervisor, Karl Banks.

According to District 2 Supervisor Ronny Lott, his district accumulated the largest amount of expenditures, $1.4 million, of which $475,000 will go toward Panther Creek Road.

“I’m happy with it,” he said. “I got – really I guess – the largest expenditures on roads in the bond plan for my district. Panther Creek is probably my largest expenditure, it’s obviously been in the works for a while.”

The approved bond expenditure also covers courthouse repairs, subdivision repairs, a parking lot for Sulphur Springs Park in northeast Madison County, and a countywide drainage plan.

The breakdown of each district:

• District 1: $1,000,000

• District 2: $1,410,397

• District 3: $1,252,010

• District 4: $1,058,500

• District 5: $938,000

• Circuit Court Building: $200,000

• Countywide Drainage plan: $470,000

• Indirect expenses: $525,583

Last month, supervisors had approved $500,000 for courthouse repairs that would begin in the next 30-45 days. Supervisors gave no reason why the money allocated was cut by more than half.
